The Marc Sleen Foundation and the associated Marc Sleen Museum originated from the author’s outspoken wish to have his work preserved and revealed to the public. Right from the start his wish was reinforced by the enthusiasm of several partners and that of a large community of comic strip fans. The Foundation carries out his conviction to encourage, mainly through the Museum, this enthusiasm in those who rediscover Sleen’s work as well as those who just get acquainted with it. In short, the Foundation makes, according to the author’s wish, the life work of Marc Sleen known to young and old.
For the comic strip world in Brussels the establishment of the Marc Sleen Foundation is a historic step forward. For the first time the works of a Belgian author are collected in an archive thanks to government aid. If this initiative is possible in Brussels of all places, it shows once again that this capital, on all levels of society, has a heart for the Ninth Art.
